West of England is a breed of domestic geese that are one of only a few true auto-sexing breeds. This characteristic allows them to determine the sex by their appearance.
West of England ganders are white with traces of grey on their back and flight feathers while geese are almost entirely white on their breast and flanks with a grey saddle. These are excellent beginner birds because of their docile temperament, although they have been known to be defensive during breeding season.
West of England geese share many of the same characteristics of Pilgrim geese and are thought to possibly be related. They are good layers, producing 30 – 40 eggs per year and grow quickly, making them a good choice for meat as well.
