The third breed of rabbits developed in the United States, the Silver Fox is a multi-purposed breed, being mostly used for fur and meat. There are two color varieties of this breed: blue and black. Physically, these rabbits are very attractive and are able to dress out 65% of its live weight when used to meat production.

Does produce large litters and are excellent mothers and foster mothers. They also display a gentle nature and grow very fast. Young rabbits show silvering around 4 weeks of age and takes 4 months to complete. Their silvering fur is what distinguishes the breed because it’s very dense, growing out around 2 inches in length.

The Silver Fox rabbits are a large breed that can weigh up to 11 lbs (12 lbs for does). Today the Silver Fox is said to be one of the rarest rabbit breeds in America.
