The Shorthorn is a dual purposed breed originating in 18th century England. The breed has diverged into two separate breeds exclusively for their attributes, the Beef Shorthorn and the Dairy Shorthorn. All the Shorthorn individuals are red, white or roan and have been used in breeding programs to improve many different other breeds of cattle, which makes them very popular.

Physically, the Shorthorns possess a moderate, rectangular frame and short legs. Cows are financial assets given that they are very fertile, mature early, produce abundant milk and they are great mothers. They are also known for calving ease and docile tempers. The only warning for Shorthorns is a lethal genetic defect in the bloodline being Tibial Hemimelia and Pulmonary Hypoplasia.

The beef from Shorthorns present high marbling traits and they cross well with any other breed, showing a high percentage of the tenderness gene which makes them and excellent beef choice.
