Named after their silky unique fur, The Satin Rabbits are medium-large rabbits with commercial body type weighing between 9 – 11lbs.
The most impressive feature of the Satin breed is its amazing shiny coat. The Satin gene produces a hair shaft of finer diameter than normal fur, which causes a silky texture; the hair shell is filled with air bubbles, causing it to be translucent. As a result, light is able to pass through it, illuminate the pigment and give the coat a nice sheen. The fur is 1 inch to 1 1/8 inches long. The fur comes in many colors including black, blue, broken group, Californian, chinchilla, chocolate, copper, otter, and others.
Today the Satin is an excellent multipurpose rabbit used for shows and for meat production.
