The pot belly pig is a breed of domestic pig native to Vietnam. This breed is much smaller than many European and American breeds of pigs, weighing anywhere from 100 – 300 pounds. Pot belly pigs are very sturdy with short legs, a drooping belly and short tail. Indigenous pot belly pigs are only found in the mountain regions of Vietnam and Thailand, where the governments are working with local farmers to raise them in order to keep the breed alive.
There has been a huge problem with pot belly pigs becoming abandoned after they become a popular pet in the 1990’s. Even though they are cute when they are young, once people realized how large they actually become they wanted to get rid of them.
