Pomeranian geese, also known as Rugener geese, are a breed of domestic geese. Recognized as an official breed in 1912, these birds actually date back as far as 1500 from Northern Germany. Pomeranian geese are the only descendants of the Greylag goose that was bred specifically for a single-lobed paunch. However, today it is common to see two lobes on many Pomeranians. They have a flat head, blue eyes and a pinkish, red bill.
Pomeranians are good egg layers, producing around 70 eggs per season. They are also known for being good watch birds as they get very noisy when visitors arrive. Today, it is a popular market goose throughout Europe but especially in the Baltic region.
