The Pilgrim goose is a breed of domestic geese that has an unclear lineage. While legend has it the Pilgrim goose came to the United States with the Pilgrims, it was actually developed more recently and is most likely descendent from European breeds or native breeds during the Great Depression. They are one of only two auto-sexing breeds of American geese, meaning males and females can be distinguished immediately after birth by their colors.
Pilgrims are medium sized geese with a trim head and flat crown. They are very plumps birds and have two round fatty lobes on their abdomens. Typically, they will lay 35 – 45 white eggs per season. Pilgrims are considered good foragers and have a docile temperament.
