Narragansett is a breed of wild turkey that is descendant from a cross between eastern wild turkeys and domestic wild turkeys. This breed has a similar appearance to the Bronze turkey, except it has grey or black feathers where the Bronze turkey has a bronze coloring.
Narragansett turkeys can have a black, gray, tan or white plumage. Narragansett turkeys were highly valued by commercial agriculture until the rise of the Bronze turkey. Narragansett turkeys have a reputation for their excellent mothering abilities and docile temperament. They produce an excellent meat, mature early, are excellent foragers and tend to stay close to home. Interestingly, they are quick runners and can fly well, preferring to roost in the trees.
