Originally from New South Wales, Australia, the Murray Grey cattle are the result of breeding an exceptionally roan Shorthorn cow with Aberdeen Angus bulls. Their existence can be credited to the fact that the farmer’s wife was particularly fond of their silver-grey colors, preventing the farmer from slaughtering them.
The Murray Grey cattle are known for their small birth size but excellent rate of growth as well as their feed efficiency and carcass quality. The Murray Grey produces beef carcasses with intramuscular seam fat, which is highly preferred in Japan and other Asian markets. With weights ranging from 1,800 – 2,500, they are moderately sized cattle and their silver-grey coloring is considered an asset as it helps prevent diseases such as eye cancer and sunburned udders.
