Maine AnjouMaine Anjou cattle originated in Northwest France and were originally known as Durham-Mancelle cattle. Their name was officially switched to Maine-Anjou in 1909 to represent the Maine and Anjou river valleys. They are one of the larger cattle breeds, with bulls weighing between 2,200 – 3,500 pounds and cows averaging 1,500 – 1,900 pounds.

Maine Anjou is typically dark red with white spots on certain areas, such as the head, belly, hind legs and tail. To maximize their effectiveness for smaller farmers, they were originally considered dual purposed cattle with cows being used for milk production and bulls being fed for beef. Today however, they are considered primarily beef cattle.

We always strongly encourage you to thoroughly check out each animal breeder you are interested in purchasing from before you make your final decision. With over 25,000 different breeders listed on this website, it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every one! And while we do our best to ensure only the top farmers are listed here, it's always best to double check yourself.
