Guinea Fowl refers to a family of birds within the Galliformes order. While native to Africa, this species of birds have been introduced throughout the world. There are 6 different varieties of Guinea Fowl, they are White-Breasted, Black, Helmeted, Plumed, Crested and Vulturine. They are ground nesting birds, with a diet consisting of mainly insects and seeds. Their appearance is very similar to the Partridge, except for a featherless head.
Guinea Fowl typically have a plumage that is dark grey or black with white spots. This type of bird is considered monogamous, almost always mating for life but are also very social and live within groups. The meat from Guinea Fowl is eaten in certain parts of the world. It is leaner but drier than chicken with a gamey flavor.
