Florida Cracker cattle are one of the oldest and rarest breeds of cattle in the United State, originating in the 16th century from Spanish imported stock. They are part of the Criolle cattle breeds, which represents cattle of European origin but born in the “New World”.
Florida Crackers are a small, horned breed that is known for their traits bring most suitable to the Floridian climate. They have adapted to become heat tolerant, resistant to parasites and diseases and productive on lower quality forage found in that part of the country. The cows are typically only 600 – 800 pounds and bulls range from 800 – 1,000 pounds. Their small size and docile personality make them an easy choice for roping competitions and youth activities such as 4-H.
