Fleckvieh cattle were created when Simmental cattle were imported to Bavaria and Austria as a means to improve their local breeds. Simmental cattle were known for their milk production and draught capacity but had minimal depth and coarse bones. This breeding created dual-purpose cattle for both milk and beef. Fleckvieh cattle range in color from light or dark yellow to dark red on white. Their white head and board muzzle are their most recognized characteristics. Having been bred for very specific purposes, they are now known for the superior beef production and growth potential.
Fleckvieh cattle have proven to be healthy and adaptable to different geographies, explaining why they can be found on all continents and are the second largest breed in the world with 41 million animals.
