fjord-horseThe Fjord horse is one of the world’s oldest breeds and is a small and light draught horse used in the mountainous regions of Norway as a farm horse. They are a strong and agile breed. They are all dun colored with 5 variations: brown, red, grey, white and yellow.

Unique in appearance, they display a compact body, sturdy legs and a strong, arched neck. Their coat becomes thicker in wintertime but naturally have a long mane commonly cut in a crescent shape. They all have primitive markings that include a dorsal stripe, darker make and tail which created a two tone effect, horizontal stripes on their forearms and sometimes transverse stripes on the withers. They also have pangare traits.

They are sure-footed, good tempered and can be used for heavy work, riding, driving, competition, sport and even used in therapeutic schools.

We always strongly encourage you to thoroughly check out each animal breeder you are interested in purchasing from before you make your final decision. With over 25,000 different breeders listed on this website, it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every one! And while we do our best to ensure only the top farmers are listed here, it's always best to double check yourself.
