The Embden goose is one of the oldest breeds of domesticated goose, dating back over 200 years. The Embden is almost twice the size of other common geese and has double the amount of feathers. These traits combined with its fast growth rate make it an excellent breed for commercial meat production. Not only are they the largest geese breed, they produce the largest geese eggs.
Embden geese can stand up to 3.5 feet tall, with males weighing up to 30 pounds. While young Embdens may have grey feathers in their plumage, adults are pure white with long, beautiful necks and a short tail. They have a short, light orange bill and orange feet as well. This breed is very hardy and prefers to live near water as they frequent forage for food.
