Delaware chickens are a breed that originated in the United States in the 1940s, primarily for production of broilers. Today however, they are critically endangered since the broiler industry is dominated Cornish/Rock broilers. Its plumage is a unique pattern, making them a popular show breed.
Delaware chickens are only found in a single color, a white body, with light black barring on the ends of the hackle, wings and tails. They are a solid bird that quickly matures and aside from quality meat, it also has good egg production of large brown eggs. While Delaware chickens have a calm temperament, they are not known for being a friendly breed.
