Cornish chickens were originally known as Indian Game in England and today are most recognized as the parent stock in the broiler industry. They are commonly bred with White Rock chickens to produce the quick growing birds that reach slaughter weight at 5 -7 weeks of age. Purebred Cornish roosters can reach up to 15 pounds, with hens reaching 8 pounds. There are multiple colors within the Cornish breed, including white, white laced red, buff and dark.
Cornish chickens are strong and muscular with close, tight feathers that give the appearance they are smaller than they actually are. Cornish chickens are moderate egg producers with hens laying a medium sized egg. They are a friendly and very energetic breed.
