A result from the crossing between Himalayan breeds and the standard Chinchilla rabbit plus the New Zealand Whites, the Californian breed is considered a domestic rabbit. Originally they were bred for their meat and pelt but didn’t become popular till recent years, becoming the most sought-after meat breed in the world. The quality of their fur also deems them as a fancy breed.
These rabbits have big ears and are large in size, weighing up to 12 lbs. They display a white body and colored points. It’s recommended to feed them rabbit pellets and a steady supply of fresh water. This is a breed that does well in a home and can be trained for a litter box and to wear a leash or harness. They are docile but they need chewing toys.
Californian rabbits produce large litters and have a fast growth rate which makes them ideal for meat.
