The Buff Ducks are also known as Buff Orpington because they originated from the Orpington farms in England where they were created by William Cook from the selection of mismarked Blue Orpington Ducks.
The Buff ducks are a domestic breed with a dual purpose since it is used for meat and egg production. They are capable of laying up to 220 eggs per year. They may appear in three different color varieties: Buff, Blond and Brown. Due to a blue dilution gene, the Buff Orpington is an unstable color which means that from the offspring, all three color variations will appear. The Buff Duck was first introduced at a Dairy Show, the Agricultural Hall in October 1897. It is considered threatened breed by the ALBC.
