bronze-turkeyBronze turkeys are a domestic breed that is named after its plumage color, which is a shimmering bronze-like sheen. They were developed by crossing domestic turkeys brought from England with the native wild turkeys. Up until the mid-twentieth century, Bronze turkeys have been the most popular turkey breed in American history. More recently, this breed has been divided into two sub-breeds, the Broad Breasted Bronze and the Standard Bronze.

The Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys are larger than the Standard and until the Broad Breasted White they dominated the commercial turkey industry. However, they are so large that they cannot mate naturally. The Standard Bronze is smaller and can still reproduce naturally, making it a popular heritage breed.

We always strongly encourage you to thoroughly check out each animal breeder you are interested in purchasing from before you make your final decision. With over 25,000 different breeders listed on this website, it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every one! And while we do our best to ensure only the top farmers are listed here, it's always best to double check yourself.
