Braford are a breed of cattle developed by crossing either a Hereford bull and Brahman cow or a Brahman bull and Hereford cow. Either way, the makeup of a Braford cattle is 3/8 Brahman and 5/8 Hereford. This breed is used for both meat production and rodeo.
Like the Hereford, Braford cattle are red with a white underbelly, feet and head. Unlike the Hereford though, it is a much stockier animal. Their Brahman heritage has given them excellent heat and insect resistance since they inherited oily skin and an increased number of sweat glands. Their massive bulk, hardiness and arguably irritable disposition have made them popular rodeo cattle.
