border-leicester-sheepThe Border Leicester sheep are a white breed from England mostly raised for their meat since they produce a lean mutton. All of the individual of the breed are polled and produce long wool. They are large sheep with a ram weighing between 309-386 lbs and ewes between 200-260 lbs.

These sheep have a regal and alert appearance but are very docile. Their head and legs don’t have wool, their faces have Romanesque features and their ears are long and erect.

Their wool is used for heavy garments and is famous for its crimp and lustre. The sheep have to be shorn twice a year with adults yielding around 7.1 lbs of wool. Ewes are very fertile and are great mothers, producing a lot of milk.

The breed is also known to be very resilient, good foragers, fast growing, active and can be found in several different countries.

We always strongly encourage you to thoroughly check out each animal breeder you are interested in purchasing from before you make your final decision. With over 25,000 different breeders listed on this website, it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every one! And while we do our best to ensure only the top farmers are listed here, it's always best to double check yourself.
