Black Angus is a Scottish breed of cattle that are primarily used for beef production. They are naturally polled and are solid black. There is another similar breed known as Red Angus, which shares the characteristics of Black Angus except its coat is solid red. Having adapted to their native conditions, Black Angus cattle are extremely hardy and can survive harsh winters. As of 2005, Black Angus cattle were the most common beef breed in the United States. It was also named the UK’s most popular native beef breed in 2014. Black Angus calves are typically smaller than the market accepts, so it must be crossbred with another breed for veal production. Its high marble qualities have led to increased popularity in Japanese markets.
