bison-pictureBison are large, even-toed ungulates that are sometimes referred to as Buffalo. There are two types, the North America Bison and the European Bison. They are the largest terrestrial animal on those continents. Bison are nomadic grazers and are always found in gender separated packs. Male and female herds commingle only at the end of the summer for mating purposes.

There are many physical differences between the North American and European Bison, including the American Bison have 15 ribs while the European has 14. Also, mature European Bison are slimmer in build while their American counterparts are hairier. While all Bison appear peaceful or lazy, they may attack anything without warning, moving up to 35 miles per hour. As herbivores, their diet consists mainly of grass.

We always strongly encourage you to thoroughly check out each animal breeder you are interested in purchasing from before you make your final decision. With over 25,000 different breeders listed on this website, it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every one! And while we do our best to ensure only the top farmers are listed here, it's always best to double check yourself.
