warmblood-horseWhile not a distinctive breed, the term Warmblood horse refers to a group of breeds native to Europe that are characterized by open studbook policies, studbook selection and breeding primarily for equestrian sport. Compared with “pure breeds”, Warmblood registries are open to other breeds in order to continuously improve their horses.

Warmbloods also use the practice of studbook selection or external evaluation, in order to weed out unsuitable breeding partners. Doing this helps breeding achieve a certain goal rather than perpetuate an ancestral type. This goal for Warmblood horses is typically to breed sport horses, primarily for show jumping and dressage.

We always strongly encourage you to thoroughly check out each animal breeder you are interested in purchasing from before you make your final decision. With over 25,000 different breeders listed on this website, it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every one! And while we do our best to ensure only the top farmers are listed here, it's always best to double check yourself.
