Today, most Valais Blacknose sheep are still in the mountainous region of Switzerland, although there are a few breeders elsewhere is the world. References to this breed date back as far as 1400, although the breed was not recognized until 1962.
Valais Blacknose sheep are considered to be one of the cutest sheep breeds with their distinctive appearance of an incredible dark face that almost seems as though they are missing the standard facial features. They also have a very shaggy coat and both rams and ewes have spiraled horns. They are a dual-purpose sheep but are raised primarily for meat, producing a high quality carcass.
