Spotted Saddle is an American breed of horses that was developed by crossing smaller, Spanish gainted pinto ponies with larger American breeds, such as the Standardbred or Morgan. The result, as the name implies, is a smooth, gaited pinto or painted horse.
Spotted Saddle are considered light riding horses, averaging 59 – 64 inches in height and 900 – 1,000 pounds. This breed has a refined head, muscular neck and chest and high-set tail. It’s ideal appearance has been described as a “smaller, slightly stockier Tennessee Walking Horse.”
To be registered as a Spotted Saddle, a horse must display an ambling gait along with a pinto coloring. As a gaited horse, Spotted Saddles perform an intermediate, ambling gait instead of the trot.
