provenceThe Provence donkey is a breed of domestic donkey from Provence, France. They were traditionally used by shepherds as a pack animal in the seasonal movements of flocks of sheep.  The height of the jacks range between 47 – 53 inches and the jennies between 46-51 inches.  Their coat ranges from pale to dark dove grey and can have pink highlights. Their muzzle and eyes are pale and the forehead and ears usually have a russet tint. They display a cross marking on their back and shoulders and occasional zebra striping on their legs.

Provence donkey are still used in transhumance by some shepherds and are also used as a pack animal, for light driving, riding, trekking and vegetation management.
