A mule is the term for the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. The size and the purpose of a mule will depend on its breeding. They can be lightweight, medium sized or heavy weight when produced from a draft horse mare. Mules are often considered more patient, sure-footed, resistant and long-lived than horses but also less obstinate, faster and more intelligent than donkeys. Their average weight is around 820-1,000 lbs. A mule can carry heavy loads of dead weight for long distances without resting, usually around 198 lbs.
They can carry live weight, such as a rider up to 353 lbs. Mules are generally stronger than horses and inherit the endurance and disposition of donkeys. They have a short thick head, long ears, thin limbs, narrow hooves and a short mane. They are mostly used for agriculture and transportation of goods.
