miniature-horseThis little horse is usually less than 34–38 inches. Foals are born weighing between 12 to 25 pounds depending on their size. In their first year, miniature horses grow to approximately 90 % of their adult height.Depending on their size adult miniatures can weigh anywhere from 150 to 350 pounds. These characteristics give rise to a debate whether they should be labeled horses or ponies. The breed also is capable of producing dwarfism. The oldest living horse (50 years old) and the smallest living horse are affected by dwarfism.

They are hardy animals and can live between 25-35 years. They range in a variety of colors and can have several health issues which owners have to be careful of, especially obesity.

Miniatures are used as assistant animals, in horse shows, and as companion pets.
