Gotland sheep have one of the most lustrous & silky fibers of any sheep breed; it can be all shades of grey and black. Gotland Gray wool does not discolor in sun exposure. They have a clearly defined, even curl (purl) and staple that is soft to the touch. The fleece is typically 29 to 34 microns in diameter.
Gotland sheep are fine-boned and of medium size. They are polled and have no wool on their black heads and legs. They have alert medium-sized ears that stand outwards with a small neat muzzle, an even jaw and even teeth. Their slender neck and shoulders set smoothly into a level back. The tail is short with a hair-covered tip.
Their disposition is docile and friendly making it a perfect choice for children and families. Ewes generally weigh from 120 to 155 lb. Rams are heavier weighing 165 to 190 lbs.
