The Emu is a species of bird found only in Australia. It is the second largest living bird in height, surpassed only by the ostrich. They can stand up to 6.2 feet tall and have soft, brown feathers with long legs and necks. Although flightless, they can sprint at 30 mph.

Emus have a distinct eating pattern, in that they will forage for plants and insects but have been known to go weeks without eating. They also rarely drink water, although when they do, they consume a large amount. During mating season, it is common for the females to fight for a mate. Females can lay multiple clutches of eggs per season. Once the eggs are laid, the males are in charge of the incubation and do not eat or drink during this period. The males are also responsible for nurturing the young once they hatch eight weeks later.
