Most likely a descendant from a cross between the Bali and Mallard ducks. Its appearance comes from a genetic mutation causing a deformity on the skull. This mutation also causes 25% of the embryos to die when the Crested ducks are purebred. If a crested duck and non-crested duck breed together, the ducklings have a 50% chance of being crested. This breed also comes in a miniature variety.
The Crested ducks are a lightweight bird with a semi horizontal stance and most birds are white but a few display some colored markings. The ducks are able to lay 120-200 eggs per year. The drakes can weigh up to 7 lbs and ducks up to 6lbs. The utilities of this breed include exhibition and meat and egg production.
