african-gooseThe African goose is a breed of domestic goose that ironically, has no connection to Africa. These birds are actually descendants of the wild swan goose. African geese are quite large compared with other breeds and have been known to have more docile temperaments. They share many characteristics with the Chinese goose but can be set apart by their different knob shape and larger dewlap. Adult Africans have a large knob attached to its forehead and a crescent shaped dewlap that hangs from its neck and lower jaw. They produce fewer eggs than other breeds as well, averaging 25-40 eggs per year, compared with 40-65 eggs from a Chinese goose. There are three accepted color varieties, including white, brown and buff.

We always strongly encourage you to thoroughly check out each animal breeder you are interested in purchasing from before you make your final decision. With over 25,000 different breeders listed on this website, it is impossible for us to be able to vouch for every one! And while we do our best to ensure only the top farmers are listed here, it's always best to double check yourself.
