Suffolk Punch is an English breed of draught horses also known as Suffolk Horse or Suffolk Sorrel. Its name is inspired by the county of Suffolk combined with its solid color appearance and strength. Developed in the early 16th century, Suffolk Punch horses today are still very similar in phenotype to their founding stock. They are large, symmetrical and identical in color and type.
All Suffolk Punches are a shade of chestnut with rare but possible white markings. They are shorter but more massive than other draught breeds which add to their high drafting ability.
Developed originally for farm work, this breed has lost its popularity as agriculture became mechanized. Today, Suffolk Punches are used for draught work, forestry and advertising.
