Bali ducks originate in the island of Bali, east of Java. They are sometimes called the Crested Runner Duck. Considered a lightweight, domesticated breed, they are mostly raised as pets or for decoration and exhibition.
Bali ducks are also very good layers producing around 140-200 blue or green eggs a year. Bali drakes can weigh up to 5 lbs and ducks 4lbs. The breed is slender, with an upright stance and their colors can be brown, wild mallard and white. They display a distinguishable crest on their heads. It’s known that the gene that creates the crest also leads to several defects including death before hatching so it’s recommended to cross crested and non-crested birds to ensure a higher survival rate.
